1. What are the various types of currently practised anaesthesias?

Local anaesthesia is possible when there is a very little anatomical area that is operated on. It does not require hospitalization. The typical example is the treatment of the upper eyelids.

Infiltration is a more elaborate form of local anaesthesia indicated for larger areas. It consists of mixing a local anaesthetic with a physiological serum that is slowly injected under the skin of the area to be treated. There is no hospitalisation needed. A typical example is the treatment of a small liposuction; the mini lifting, the cervical lipo-aspiration…

The neuroleptanalgesia is a type of very light general anaesthesia for which there is no respiratory depression therefore no intubations. The depth of this anaesthesia can be modulated according to the technical needs. It is used very frequently and requires a half day hospitalisation. The typical example is the treatment of the four eyelids, certain lipo-aspirations, even certain light liftings, etc...

The general anaesthesia is the most used and offers the most surgical comfort for both surgeon and patient. Its use is not debatable in many cases. Sometimes one can hesitate between two different types of anaesthesia, but it is always preferable to use an anaesthesia with which the surgeon feels comfortable to work and the patient will not suffer.

The anaesthesia of the spinal column/rachis deadens the nerves of the limbs, like the epidural anaesthesia. It is mostly used for surgery below the hips such as lipo-aspiration of the thighs, and is favoured by many practitioners and patients.

2. What about health ?

As we have mentioned, esthetical surgery is for people in good physical and mental health. However, certain pathologies do not make the surgery intervention inadvisable if it is rightly taken into consideration. A well treated hypertension, well balanced diabetes not insulin dependent, hyperthyroidism, etc. do not hinder a surgery intervention that can be beneficial. It is the role of the anaesthesiologist (but also the surgeon) to appreciate the possibility to operate or not depending on the patient’s health. It is important to always sort out the medical problems before taking any decision.

3. Risks and complications ?

Any surgery intervention involves certain risks or complications that are considered. Some risks depend on the surgeon and can be avoided thanks to his/her experience, know-how and seriousness. Other risks are not dependent on the surgeon and are specific to certain surgeries. Appearance of a crust/scab/shell after insertion of prostheses is hard to avoid in certain cases.

The application of good quality prostheses, the delicate method of placing correctly and behind the large pectoral muscle, etc. highly contributes to reduce the risk. The lymph discharge after abdominal surgery is another example of this. The surgeon will need to discuss with the patient all the risks related to any surgery intervention during the first meeting.

4. Final improvements ?

This is an important point to discuss before any esthetical surgery intervention. An improvement is a complementary procedure in order to perfect the results of a successful intervention.

5. In case of re-improvements ?

These are generally performed under local anaesthesia and do not generate any additional costs. The surgeon will be pleased to answer any of your questions and will provide you with information pertaining to the subject.

6. You have decided to undergo a more thorough surgery than expected upon arrival?

In principal, this can be discussed with – or may be advised by – your surgeon during the pre-surgery check-up. If this case happens on site, we will establish a new cost estimate including the extra charge and you shall be requested to settle the addition upon your return.

7. Can surgery be done at any age?

Age is somewhat relative if the patient is in good health, strongly motivated and his/her life is in harmony with such a decision. The surgery intervention can therefore be really beneficial. It is obviously necessary to have an extremely complete pre-surgery check up.

8. Is it necessary to lose weight before a surgical intervention?

The answer is yes in many cases. However, some patients have fatty cushions genetically defined for which diets have no effect. Only lipoaspiration can treat such cases. Some patients show little excess of fat or have lost a lot of weight and as a result cannot lose their belly, just to cite an example, despite major efforts.
Under certain circumstances it is possible to perform surgery in order to reward them, to motivate them to maintain their weight and provide them with the body they have longed for.

9. What about Esthetical surgery for men ?

Esthetical surgery concerns more and more active men, who are worried about their image and would like to be in step with their environment. 15 to 20% of surgeries are performed on men for lipo-aspiration, to “pin back” or reshape ears, rejuvenating surgery, etc.
..

10. In case of on site cancellation?

This situation has almost never occurred. All investigations done by your surgeon during the pre-surgery procedures in your respective country will tell if an intervention is to be avoided. Yet, if during your pre-surgery medical advice, the surgeon identifies a medical nuisance making the intervention not recommended, it should be cancelled. The redemption value is detailed in
terms of sale.

If, regardless of any medical problem, you willingly decide to cancel your intervention upon arrival, part of the total costs related to your stay at the clinic and the hotel – the first deposit – will not be reimbursed by LaBelle Feeling Well. (The amount reimbursed will vary from one surgery to the other. Nevertheless, we study the situation on a case to case basis, trying to be as flexible and understanding as possible.) For more details, would you please refer to terms of sale.

11. Are there hidden expenses?

No bad surprises or additional costs will be requested outside of your cost estimate. Nevertheless, take in consideration your personal expenses while in Tunisia (restaurant, hobbies, shopping), as well as potential fees such as Thalassotherapy, golf, trips.

12. Is Tunisia a safe country?

The geographical location of Tunisia, at the meeting point of different civilisations and in the middle of the Mediterranean basin, has always been beneficial to the country throughout the centuries, namely with many European countries. This has forged a very open minded and welcoming character in the Tunisian people. The French language is spoken as much as Arabic and a cultural diversity lives within the country, thus very far from any fundamentalist preconceptions. The most “European” country, south of the Mediterranean, is safe and welcomes each year over 5 million tourists.

13. Can I be reached?

During your stay, LaBelle Feeling Well puts at your service an international Tunisian line filled filled with 20 Tunisian Dinars so that you can be reached from abroad whether you are in the clinic or in the hotel, directly from your room.

14. Passport and visa?

For Swiss citizens and the Nationals of the European Union, a valid passport is required. Only your ID card is required when you have booked a package deal before your departure (the hotel reservation voucher that we provide you if the case arises must be submitted at the airport when checking in.
For all other nationalities, a valid passport is required. A visa could be required depending on nationality.

15. Can I take advantage to go site-seeing?

Yes, but BEFORE the intervention. These are not “surgical holidays” like some agencies might make you think. It is mainly a very important decision and a plastic surgery intervention. After your intervention, you will need a very quiet environment, combining calm, comfort and discretion in order to recover in the shortest time and in the best conditions. You will need to stay 4 to 10 days on site after the surgery intervention and it is not recommended to do any site-seeing at that time.

16. Type of weather?

It is a Mediterranean moderate climate which mildness is suitable to rest and relaxation.

17. Local currency?

The Tunisian currency is the dinar. In Tunisia you are allowed to change your foreign currency money in the local banks or at the hotel. All world well-known credit cards are accepted.
